# What is Rain.Fi

RainFi is a peer-to-peer (P2P) lending protocol built on the Solana blockchain, offering innovative ways for users to access and utilize financial resources. Its unique features empower borrowers and lenders by providing flexibility and eliminating traditional financial barriers. RainFi's ecosystem is designed for efficiency, scalability, and inclusivity, catering to a broad range of financial needs.

# Why Rain.Fi

## Why rain.fi Stands Out

Rain.Fi distinguishes itself in the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem through its innovative approach and user-centric features. Here’s why it’s a standout protocol:

1. **No Price-Based Liquidations**:

   Unlike most DeFi lending platforms, rain.fi doesn't liquidate loans based on price volatility. Borrowers only face liquidation if the debt isn't repaid on time, providing a sense of stability and predictability that reduces risk for users.
2. **Flexible Borrowing Options**:

   With features such as borrowing tokens and NFTs through collateralized loans and the Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) system, rain.fi offers tailored solutions for diverse financial needs. These options cater to traders, NFT collectors, and everyday users, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for a wide audience.
3. **Passive Earnings for Lenders**:

   RainFi enables lenders to earn passive income by providing liquidity to borrowing pools. By participating in the protocol, lenders can earn attractive returns on their assets, making RainFi a lucrative opportunity for investors seeking steady yields.
4. **Leverage Opportunities**:

   Traders and financial strategists can use RainFi's leverage swap feature to optimize their positions, enhancing their potential returns while benefiting from a low-risk liquidation model.
5. **Built on Solana**:

   Leveraging Solana’s high-speed, low-cost infrastructure, RainFi ensures seamless transactions, efficient scalability, and an overall superior user experience.

RainFi’s combination of borrower-centric stability and lender-focused earning opportunities positions it as a game-changing protocol in the DeFi landscape.

# Trade

**Leverage Trading:**\
Leverage trading allows users to amplify their position by borrowing additional funds to trade a larger amount than their initial deposit. This increases potential profits but also carries higher risks.

# Margin Swap

The **Margin Swap** feature in rain.fi enables users to perform leveraged trades without the risk of price-based liquidations. By locking the deposit and loan amount as collateral, users can gain financial leverage with enhanced flexibility and reduced risk.

***

**How Margin Swap Works**

* **Collateralization**:
  * Both the user's initial deposit and the loan amount are locked as collateral.
  * The user does not receive tokens until the loan amount is fully repaid.

***

**Leverage Slider**

* Users can determine the leverage ratio using the **leverage slider**.
* The leverage amount is directly influenced by the pool’s **Loan-to-Value (LTV)** ratio:
  * **Higher LTV** pools allow for greater leverage amounts.
  * **Lower LTV** pools provide more conservative leverage options.

This flexibility ensures users can customize their risk and potential reward according to their trading strategies and the available pool conditions.

***

**Available Options for Margin Swap**

1. [**Repay and Retrieve Collateral**](/account/dashboard/active-loans/repay):
   * **Repay:** By choosing to repay, you unlock the collateral funds. However, you'll need to settle the outstanding loan amount in full to regain access to the locked assets.
   * Upon repayment, the user receive collateral.
2. [**Extend the Loan**](/account/dashboard/active-loans/extend):
   * Extend the loan term if additional time is needed for repayment.
   * This option helps maintain flexibility in financial management.
3. [**Market Sell**](/account/dashboard/active-loans/market-sell):
   * With this option, your deposited collateral is sold, and the proceeds are used to repay the loan automatically. You'll receive the remaining amount after deducting the loan balance—this could include profits if the trade was successful or a reduced amount if the trade resulted in a loss.
   * The loan is repaid automatically from the proceeds, and the user receives the remaining balance.

***

**Key Benefits of Margin Swap**

1. **Leveraged Trading Without Liquidations**:
   * Unlike traditional leverage trades, Margin Swap eliminates the risk of price-based liquidations.
   * Users have full control over the outcome without forced closures due to market volatility.
2. **Flexible Options**:
   * Multiple repayment and liquidation options allow users to adapt to their financial circumstances.
3. **Simplified Collateral Management**:
   * All transactions, including collateral handling and repayments, are managed seamlessly through the RainFi platform.

***

The Margin Swap feature is ideal for traders seeking leveraged opportunities without exposure to price-based risks. It empowers users with advanced trading tools while maintaining stability and control.

# Borrow

The **Borrow Menu** in RainFi provides users with three straightforward options to access assets through borrowing:

1. [**Token**](/borrow/token)

   Borrow a variety of tokens by choosing a pool and providing the required collateral.
2. [**NFTs**](/borrow/nfts):

   Secure NFTs by offering collateral, giving users access to digital collectables and assets without upfront purchases.
3. [**Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)**](broken://pages/a2CcJdQygGNWsgHKPIJA):

   This option allows users to acquire assets by paying a portion upfront and deferring the remainder, along with interest, to a later date.

The menu is designed for simplicity and efficiency, enabling users to seamlessly choose the borrowing option that fits their needs.

# Token

## **Borrowing Tokens: Step-by-Step Guide**

The **Borrow Token** feature in Rain.Fi allows users to access tokens through a straightforward and intuitive process. Below is a detailed explanation of how it works:

***

#### **1. Selecting Tokens for Collateral and Borrowing**

* When a user selects the **Token** option from the **Borrow Menu**, two sections are displayed:
  * **"You Collateralized"**: Tokens the user can provide as collateral.
  * **"You Borrow"**: Tokens the user wishes to borrow.
* The user selects one token from each section to proceed with the borrowing process.

***

#### **2. Viewing and Sorting Pools**

* After choosing the collateral and borrowing tokens, a dropdown window opens, displaying a list of available pools.
* **Default Sorting**: Pools are displayed based on predefined criteria for ease of use.
* **Filter Icon**:
  * Located on the top-right corner of the token selection screen.
  * **Multi-Select and Order**: Users can select multiple filters and arrange their order of priority. The pools will then be sorted based on the selected filters in the specified order.
  * Allows users to customize how pools are sorted, offering the following options:
    1. **Loan Amount**: Sort pools by the maximum loan amount available.
    2. **Longest Duration**: Pools with the longest loan terms appear first.
    3. **Shortest Duration**: Pools with the shortest loan terms appear first.
    4. **Interest**: Sort by the interest rate, from lowest to highest.
    5. **APR**: Sort by Annual Percentage Rate (APR).

***

#### **3. Pool Information Tooltip**

* Each pool in the list has a small **"i" icon** next to it.
* **Mouse Hover**: Hovering over this icon displays detailed information about the pool, including:
  * **Total Interest**: The amount the user will pay in interest over the loan term.

# NFTs

#### Using NFTs as Collateral

The **NFT as a Collateral** feature in RainFi allows users to leverage their NFTs to borrow tokens. This option provides flexibility for NFT holders who want to unlock liquidity without selling their assets. Below is a step-by-step guide:

***

**1. Providing NFT as Collateral**

* From the **Borrow Menu**, users select the **NFT** option.
* The user chooses an NFT from their wallet to use as collateral.

***

**2. Selecting Tokens to Borrow**

* After selecting the NFT, users choose the token they want to borrow.
* Once the token is selected, a dropdown window displays a list of available pools.

***

**3. Viewing and Sorting Pools**

The logic for pool sorting and filtering mirrors the process for token borrowing:

* **Default Sorting**: Pools are initially displayed based on predefined criteria.
* **Filter Icon**:
  * Located at the top-right corner of the pool list.
  * **Multi-Select and Order**: Users can select multiple filters and arrange their priority. Pools will then be sorted based on the specified filter order.
  * Available filters include:

***

**4. Pool Information Tooltip**

* Each pool has a small **"i" icon** next to it.
* **Mouse Hover**: Hovering over the icon displays detailed information about the loan, including:
  * **Total Interest**: The amount the user will pay in interest over the loan term.
  * **Fees**: Any additional fees associated with the loan.

***

This feature provides NFT holders with a seamless way to access liquidity while retaining ownership of their digital assets, making it an ideal choice for leveraging high-value collectables.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/Aom3MiHQL7P7v0SSLVoJ" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

# Liquidation

In **RainFi**, **there is no price-based liquidation** mechanism. Unlike traditional lending platforms that trigger liquidation based on asset price volatility or LTV thresholds, **RainFi only liquidates a position when a loan is not repaid by its due date**.

This time-based liquidation model gives borrowers more control and reduces stress related to market fluctuations.

***

#### When Does Liquidation Happen?

Liquidation **only** occurs when the borrower **fails to repay the loan before or at the end of the loan period**. If the loan remains unpaid past the deadline, the collateral (token or NFT) is automatically liquidated to repay the lender.

***

#### Grace Period

RainFi offers a **grace period** to help users avoid immediate liquidation:

* **1 hour of grace** is given **for each day** the loan is borrowed.
* The **maximum grace period** is **8 hours**, regardless of loan length.

> 🕒 Example:\
> If you borrow for 3 days, your grace period is 3 hours.\
> If you borrow for 14 days, your grace period caps at 8 hours.

***

#### How to Avoid Liquidation

To stay safe from liquidation, the borrower can choose from **three available options**:

1. [**Repay the Loan**](/account/dashboard/active-loans/repay)\
   Repay the borrowed amount (and any accrued interest) before the due date to recover your collateral and close the position.
2. [**Extend the Loan**](/account/dashboard/active-loans/extend)\
   Choose the *Extend* option to increase the loan duration. This creates a new loan under the current pool terms and gives you more time to repay.
3. [**Market Sell**](/account/dashboard/active-loans/market-sell)\
   If you want to exit the position early or avoid repayment manually, use *Market Sell*. This sells the collateral (via DEX or marketplace) and automatically repays the loan with the proceeds. Any remaining value after repayment goes to you.

***

#### Summary

RainFi offers a borrower-friendly approach by eliminating price-triggered liquidations. As long as you manage your repayment or use available actions in time, your collateral remains safe.

# LTV & Exposure

#### LTV (Loan-to-Value) and Exposure

**LTV (Loan-to-Value)** is a ratio that indicates how much of a loan can be taken based on the value of the provided collateral. It is a measurement of the balance between the loan amount and the collateral value, expressed as a percentage.

***

**How LTV is Calculated**

The formula for LTV is:

$$
LTV = \left( \frac{\text{Loan Amount}}{\text{Collateral Value}} \right) \times 100
$$

***

**Example**

* **Loan Amount**: 10,000 USDC
* **Collateral Value**: 20,000 USDC

Using the formula:

$$
LTV = \left( \frac{10,000}{20,000} \right) \times 100 = 50%
$$

This means that for every 20,000 USDC worth of SOL provided as collateral, the user can borrow 10,000 USDC.

***

**What is Exposure?**

**Exposure** refers to the maximum percentage of the pool's total liquidity that can be allocated to loans for a specific collateral type. It ensures that the pool's funds are diversified across multiple collaterals while maintaining defined limits for each.

***

#### **How Exposure Works**

When a user creates a pool, they can assign an **exposure percentage** to each collateral type. This percentage defines the maximum amount of the pool's liquidity that can be loaned out for loans backed by the specified collateral.

**Example**

Suppose a user creates a pool with **10,000 USDC** and assigns the following exposures:

* **SMBs (Solana Monkey Business): 20%**
* **FWOG: 50%**
* **SOL: 90%**

The maximum amount allocated for loans to each collateral type would be:

* **SMBs**: 20% of 10,000 = **2,000 USDC**
* **FWOG**: 50% of 10,000 = **5,000 USDC**
* **SOL**: 90% of 10,000 = **9,000 USDC**

This allocation applies regardless of the number of loans taken to reach the specified amounts for each collateral.

***

**Key Differences**

* **LTV**: Represents the relationship between the loan amount and collateral value as a percentage.
* **Exposure:** Defines the borrowing cap for a token by applying the configured percentage to the total pool liquidity.

Understanding LTV and Exposure helps ensure safe borrowing while maximizing the utility of your collateral.

* **Max Liquidation Ratio**:
  * **Maximum Allowed Liquidation Ratio**:
    * Set the maximum ratio of liquidated loans to total loans in the pool. This setting helps control the pool's risk exposure by limiting the number of loans that can be liquidated compared to the total number of loans outstanding.
      * **Example**: If the maximum liquidation ratio is set to 20%, once 20% of the total loans are liquidated, no further loans can be liquidated until the ratio drops below the threshold.

***

#### **Private Loans**

This section allows you to restrict access to the pool to specific borrowers, providing greater control over who can borrow from the pool.

* **Restrict Pool Access to Specific Borrowers**:

# Delegation

Delegation is a feature that allows lenders to allocate their idle funds to another lending protocol that offers a constant yield, while they wait for their liquidity to be borrowed on Rainfi.

### 🔄 P2P and Idle Liquidity

P2P lending on Rainfi works like an order book. Lenders create a pool, and their liquidity is made available to be borrowed based on the conditions they define.

However, whenever this liquidity isn’t borrowed, it generates **0% APY,** this is called **idle liquidity**.

To optimize returns, idle funds can be **delegated** to an external protocol that provides a constant yield. As soon as a borrower requests liquidity on Rainfi, the delegated funds are automatically undelegated and lent to the borrower.

***

### ⚙️ How It Works

1. A lender creates a pool on Rainfi to lend tokens.
2. On the pool page, the lender can access their available vaults and choose to delegate funds to generate yield until a borrow request occurs.

<div><figure><img src="/files/IfzUaWtWDt5aBJ7fpPGX" alt="" width="262"><figcaption></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/DWKl9NYdCKlQaImUp1kt" alt="" width="291"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

1. Once delegation is activated for a vault:
   * All idle funds are automatically delegated every hour.
   * This includes new deposits, repaid loans, and earned interest.
   * This ensures optimized yield generation.
2. When a borrow request is made on Rainfi, the delegated funds are instantly undelegated and redirected to the borrower.

### 🛠️ Flexibility

Delegation gives each user full discretion to decide on which external platform they want to allocate their idle funds.

# Liquid

**Liquid** (<https://liquid.rain.fi/>) is a protocol that allows users to stake their tokens and receive a liquid staking token (**stToken**) that can be used as collateral to borrow on [Rain.fi](http://rain.fi/).

This lets users keep utility and access liquidity while their tokens remain staked.

#### 🔁 How It Works

* Users stake tokens (e.g. JUP, COLLAT) into **Liquid**.
* In return, they receive an **stToken** (non-transferable, non-convertible).
* **stTokens** can be used as collateral for borrowing, but **cannot** be transferred or sold.

#### 🧷 Unstaking

* The unstaking period depends on the underlying staking program:
  * **stJUP** → **34 days**
  * **stCOLLAT** → **15 days**
* During the unstaking period (e.g. stJUP), users **lose voting power**.
* Once unstaking completes, the user receives back the base token.
  * **1 stToken = 1 base token, always.**

#### ⚠️ Liquidation Behavior

If a user’s **stToken** position is liquidated:

* The stToken is automatically sent to the lender’s wallet.
* It remains considered **staked** (with **full voting power restored for stJUP).**
* The lender can then choose to unstake if they wish.

#### 🔒 Restrictions

* Users **cannot create pools** using **stTokens**.
* **stTokens are non-transferable** and **cannot be swapped** into any other token.

#### 🎁 Rewards Distribution

* Users must **claim rewards directly** on Liquid after each distribution.
* Rewards are distributed in the form of **stTokens**, which directly increase the staked balance of each user.

# Build with Liquid

**Liquid** is a staking program for tokens, accessible to everyone.

It offers the only solution on Solana for projects to build an advanced staking system where staked tokens can be used as collateral to borrow liquidity.

This empowers staking efficiency and strengthens user commitment to the project’s lifecycle.

### ⚙️ Staking Parameters

Projects using **Liquid** as their staking solution can fully control the following parameters:

* **Unstaking period:** from 1 day to ∞
* **Rewards distribution:** daily, weekly, monthly, etc.
* **Custom APY:** define and manage your own yield
  * Possibility to distribute additional yield with each distribution (project fees, partner airdrops, etc.).
* **Staking cap:** set a maximum amount if needed
* **Optional whitelisting:** allow your stToken to be used with additional dApps beyond [Rain.fi](http://Rain.fi)

### 🚀 How to Get Started

You can request a **Liquid staking program** directly on the [Liquid website](https://liquid.rain.fi/),

or by contacting the Rain team on Discord.
